Oregon United for Marriage (orunited.org) is building a broad coalition of individuals and organizations to win the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Oregon. Students United for Marriage (SU4M) — orunited.org/students — is a key part of that coalition. On campuses across Oregon, we are uniting to support the freedom to marry for all loving, committed couples.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This is an immediate opening for a full-time Student Director. The Student Director will work as part of a dynamic field and outreach team and will be responsible for overseeing the student engagement program of Oregon United for Marriage. The Student Director will manage a team of 2 – 5 student organizers to recruit and manage large volunteer teams on college campuses across the state, develop new student leaders, and lead a student voter registration drive in collaboration with other progressive coalition members.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Campus Organizers to execute overall SU4M goals and objectives.
  • Recruit, train and develop teams of volunteer leaders on college campuses across the state. 
  • Work with statewide campus chair and the Campaign to set and execute volunteer and leader recruitment goals, signature goals, and voter registration shifts on campus.
  • Create and coordinate volunteer-led outreach and public education programs on campus.
  • Create recruitment strategy to expand SU4M on all public universities, and targeted private and community colleges.
  • Work with the campaign staff on creating and implementing trainings including an internship program.
  • Identify and build relationships with key coalition partners.
  • Work with SU4M staff and volunteers to execute fundraising goals through individual donors, events, house parties and organizations.
  • Assist with staff supervision and day-to-day management of the campus program including the development of projects, work plans and goal setting. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years of full-time labor, student, community or constituency organizing experience.
  • Past supervision experience of staff/interns is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, develop work plans and meet targeted goals.
  • Experience and ability to create leadership development models to train student and staff leadership.
  • Professional and/or personal connection to the geographic region in which duties will be performed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with remote oversight, limited instructions with individualized goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and driven to succeed.
  • Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel in-state.

COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with experience, health benefits available.
