Statescape Billfinder

December 18, 2012

Billfinder allows you to search for state and federal bills on any subject. We use it to find the text of bills relating to LGBT rights.

To use the Billfinder, you need to enter a name and an organization, but that's all. You don't register or have to give them contact information.

Once you've registered yourself as a guest, you'll have a keyword search box on the left. The application uses boolean search terms. For example if you're interested in transgender nondiscrimination bills, with the exact phrase "transgender nondiscrimination" associated with them, type in - transgender nondiscrimination. If you're interested in bills with both words, but not necessarily in that order, type - transgender and nondiscrimination. If you are interested in bills that have either word, type - transgender or nondiscrimination.

You can also search by bill number and you can limit your search to specific states by holding Ctrl (PC) or Command key (MAC) and clicking the states you're following.

StateScape returns the bill number, name and a brief description. For more detail on each bill, click the links associated with them.
