Prevent Mpox in our communities

January 23, 2026

Mpox is circulating in the United States, with new reported cases averaging between 2 and 20 per day. Awareness of mpox is low, and communities face personal and systemic barriers to accessing health care.

To help our communities learn about mpox and the safe and effective vaccine that protects against it, we have created a community education toolkit that is fully customizable and bilingual.

What’s in the toolkit:

  • Social graphics
  • Community flyer
  • Facts card
  • Video and radio scripts
  • Flyer for health care providers
  • Photo library
  • And more!

To access the toolkit, email publichealth@equalityfederation.org.

In 2022, the public health response to mpox was too little, too late. Almost 90% of the people who died from mpox were Black men, and almost all had weakened immune systems. We must do better in 2026.

Since it began, we have worked to call attention to mpox and speak out about the tragic death rate for Black men living with HIV. We created a toolkit of community education materials in 2023 and continue to advocate for funding, attention, and a destigmatizing approach.

With public health under attack, LGBTQ+ organizations have an opportunity to be a trusted source of information for our community members.

We deeply appreciate the expertise and ongoing contributions of Equality Federation partners in the states, who were involved at every stage of creating this toolkit. A series of meetings with advocacy organizations, including Georgia Equality, Transgender Education Network of Texas, One Colorado, Equality North Carolina, Equality New Mexico, and Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico, informed our work from the beginning. Partner feedback helped make sure that these materials are practical, culturally relevant, positive, and direct.

In an environment marked by cuts to public health and attacks on health care and our communities, trusted nonprofit organizations like Equality Federation state partners are important messengers for public health education. There is a long tradition of LGBTQ+ leaders providing accurate, timely health information to our community, and we are proud to continue that work.
