Director of Communications

Mark is the Director of Communications at Equality Federation, the strategic partner to state-based organizations winning equality in the communities we call home. As Director of Communications, Mark focuses on elevating our organizational brand to better reach target audiences -- from Federation member organizations to LGBT movement leaders. He expands our communications through our website, email, social media, and beyond -- telling the story of the state-based movement across multiple platforms.

Mark majored in Marketing Communication at Emerson College in Boston and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Speech Communication. He brings to the Federation years of experience working with organizations serving various populations within the LGBTQ community, such as the Boston Alliance of LGBTQ Youth, Our Family Coalition, and COLAGE. Most recently, he served as the Senior Manager of Communications at Transgender Law Center. Mark is also a dedicated activist for social and economic justice. In 2000, he founded one of the first online hubs for queer activists, QueerToday.com, which has garnered media attention worldwide for sparking creative LGBTQ rights demonstrations.

Mark identifies as gender, sexually, and politically queer, and he also identifies as “Second Gen,” signifying that he has a gay parent. He is based in San Francisco, where he lives with his husband Wing and their Jack Russell Terrier, Willy.

Black & LGBTQ+ Organizations Mobilize in High-Stakes Supreme Court Battle

We joined The Center for HIV Law and Policy (CHLP), PrEP in Black America (PIBA), Afiya Center (Dallas), Women with a Vision (New Orleans), SisterLove (Atlanta), and BlaqOut (Kansas City, Missouri) in filing an amicus, or “friend of the court,” brief in the Braidwood v Kennedy case on appeal in the Supreme Court in order to take a stand defending access to preventative health care nationally and to protect the Black and brown lives that will be lost should this access be overturned.
