Health Care is an LGBTQ+ Issue

December 17, 2025

Health care is essential for everyone. And it’s been in the news constantly.

What gets lost in the discussion is that cuts to health care disproportionately hurt LGBTQ+ communities. Many stories about health care talk about only one aspect at a time, making it hard to connect the dots and see where we really stand.

At Equality Federation, we see the connections between the headlines, and we work to center our communities in everything we do. We created a comprehensive factsheet that connects all the health care news by asking one question: what does this mean for LGBTQ+ communities?

Click here to download the comprehensive health care factsheet.

Cuts to health care funding, research, and programs will lead to worse health outcomes for many and set us back decades as a country. These cuts are devastating for LGBTQ+ communities because we already experience discrimination, poverty, and worse health outcomes.

We can only chart a path forward when we are clear about exactly what we face. We hope this new tool will help state leaders understand the big picture and educate our communities about what’s really at stake in health care.

Shifting the Narrative: LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Breast Cancer Awareness

“Beyond Pink Ribbons” is more than a slogan. It’s a reminder that breast cancer advocacy must evolve if it’s going to serve everyone it claims to represent. It’s time to create space for everyone who lives with, or is at risk for, this disease.
