EqualityMaine Seeks Executive Director

September 26, 2013

EqualityMaine is looking for a collaborative, innovative, visionary leader, and the Federation is assisting them with their search!

Founded in 1984, EqualityMaine is the largest LGBT organization in Maine, with a $500,000 budget and 5.25 FTE staff. It is headquartered in Portland, ME, with a satellite office in Brewer ME. The Executive Director will lead this highly respected and historically successful organization into its new future, following the passage of marriage equality in Maine in 2012.

In addition to winning the freedom to marry for same-sex couples, EqualityMaine has secured trans-inclusive nondiscrimination laws, a hate crimes law, and anti-bullying protections. Now that Maine is a state that recognizes and protects LGBT people and their families, EqualityMaine has instituted a new strategic plan that will guide its work to ensure that equality is real for all members of our community. The organization has defined full equality: when all LGBT Mainers are safe, healthy and whole, and living open and productive lives -- regardless of their age, their gender identity or expression, or where in Maine they live. The new Executive Director will lead the organization through the implementation of this five-year strategic plan.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader who is skilled at building bridges and forming new partnerships and able to articulate the organizational vision in a way that inspires and moves to action a range of stakeholders -- from rural Mainers, to the State Legislature.
