Equality Federation Welcomes Mark Snyder as Director of Communications

November 14, 2014

All of us at Equality Federation are proud to welcome Mark Snyder to our team as Director of Communications. He will begin working at the Federation next month, and is looking forward to connecting with many of you very soon.

Mark brings to the Federation years of experience working with organizations serving various populations within the LGBTQ community. He has worked in communications and fundraising capacities for the Boston Alliance of LGBTQ Youth, Our Family Coalition, and COLAGE. Most recently, he served as the Senior Manager of Communications at Transgender Law Center.

During his career, Mark has been able to use his media savviness to build the capacity of emerging leaders, shift cultural narratives, win campaigns, and raise much-needed funds. He’s trained hundreds of people on messaging and communications skills, garnered thousands of media hits, and was a key player behind Laverne Cox’s Time Magazine cover and fighting Facebook’s “real name” policy.

Mark is also a dedicated activist for social and economic justice. In 2000, he founded one of the first online hubs for queer activists, QueerToday.com, which has garnered media attention worldwide for sparking creative LGBTQ rights demonstrations.

As Director of Communications, Mark will focus on elevating our organizational brand to better reach target audiences -- from Federation member organizations to LGBT movement leaders. He will expand our communications through our website, email, social media, and beyond -- telling the story of the state-based movement across multiple platforms.

Mark will also work with the Federation team and partners to identify and seize opportunities to build the expertise of state-based movement leaders - from trainings and consultation on messaging to communications planning. He will engage in strategic partnerships with Federation member organizations, providing support to state groups looking to boost their communications capacity.

His passion for utilizing new media and succinct messaging to inspire people to create a world that treats LGBTQ people with dignity and respect is a perfect fit for the Federation.

Mark will be based in San Francisco, where he lives with his husband Wing and their Jack Russell Terrier, Willy. Mark identifies as gender, sexually, and politically queer, and he also identifies as “Second Gen,” signifying that he has a gay parent.
