Equality Federation Welcomes Andy Garcia as Program Manager

January 9, 2014

All of us at Equality Federation Institute are proud to welcome Andy Garcia as Program Manager.

Andy has joined our nondiscrimination team and will work with veteran movement leaders Roey Thorpe and Anne Stanback to implement our expanded program focused on advancing policies that protect LGBT people from discrimination. We are grateful to the Arcus Foundation for the support that made this position possible.

As Program Manager, Andy will strengthen our strategic partnerships across the country to support work to end discrimination against LGBT people in every state. Whether advocates are focused on local policies, state laws or ballot victories, Andy’s role is to coordinate the movement’s existing resources -- and create others that are needed -- to help state and local leaders win equality in the communities we call home.

Andy brings more than twenty years of LGBT movement experience to our team. He spent three years with the Pipeline Project, managing its 21st Century Fellows Program, a leadership development initiative for people of color working in the LGBT movement. For seven years, Andy served as Program Director at the Boston Alliance of LGBT Youth (BAGLY), one of the nation’s oldest and most-respected LGBT youth organizations.

Andy’s experience is a perfect fit for the Federation as we expand our nondiscrimination program and prepare to make an even greater impact in the states. From organizational development and diversity to training and technical assistance to messaging and leadership, Andy’s expertise will be a critical asset to Federation members and state and local activists working to win nondiscrimination protections in every corner of the country.

Andy will be based in Washington, DC, and is sure to be connecting with many of you very soon.

Shifting the Narrative: LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Breast Cancer Awareness

“Beyond Pink Ribbons” is more than a slogan. It’s a reminder that breast cancer advocacy must evolve if it’s going to serve everyone it claims to represent. It’s time to create space for everyone who lives with, or is at risk for, this disease.
