Equality Federation and Equality Federation Institute are proud to announce the launch of our 2026-29 Strategic Plan, a roadmap for the next three years that lays the foundation for achieving big goals over the next decade.
As longtime organizers and advocates, we have navigated our movement through divisive culture wars and still secured local and state nondiscrimination protections, marriage equality, expanded access to HIV treatment, and advanced acceptance of transgender and gender nonconforming people at a radical pace. But we are now enduring challenging times.
We developed this strategic plan recognizing that our hard-won rights and protections exist on fragile ground.
Participating in a reflective process to re-establish our strategic direction could not come at a more important time.
Through an intensive, year-long collaborative process, we engaged in strategic planning that prioritized inclusivity, transparency, and collective ownership.
This plan captures the organization we are becoming—brighter in its ambition and bolder in its impact—while remaining true to the organizational and movement-building work that has been the legacy of our 30-year history.
In this strategic plan, our supporters can expect:
- A re-launch of our leadership development program, which is our core capacity-building investment in state leaders.
- Renewed commitment to bringing organizing and campaigning fundamentals back to the field.
- A re-doubling of our effort to move resources and relationships to advance state-based LGBTQ+ policy priorities.
- Refining our capacity building services under our “Be, Build, Bring” framework, which will inform all programs and services.
- The recognition that Interdependence is fundamental to the success of our movement and our network, and is a new organizational core value.
In pursuing this strategic plan, we are clear that its milestones serve a goal beyond this moment.
This plan launches Equality Federation’s commitment to a bold, 50-state strategy. Within a decade, we will root our network into every state that endeavors to build enduring grassroots power for LGBTQ+ people.
