Congrats to our Executive Director, Hutch, on making the Curve Power List 2026!

April 28, 2026

Congratulations to Fran "Hutch" Hutchins, Executive Director of Equality Federation, on making the Curve Power List 2026!

As a highlight of Lesbian Visibility Week 2026, the annual Curve Power List honors LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary changemakers making a monumental impact in communities across North America. From sports and entertainment icons to corporate leaders and lawmakers, these individuals are breaking barriers, challenging norms, and shaping the future.

From their roots as an organizer for marriage equality to their continued dedication to expanding Equality Federation’s support across the state-based LGBTQ+ movement, Hutch's contributions to LGBTQ+ advocacy run deep. Read more about their contributions below.

We are also incredibly proud to see Brielle Winslow-Majette (Garden State Equality) and Alex Sheldon (GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality) from our board, alongside Dr. Carla Smith, CEO of our partner The NYC LGBT Community Center, recognized on this list. Please join us in congratulating this well-deserving powerhouse group of leaders!

More about Hutch:

Fran (Hutch) Hutchins (they/she) is the Executive Director at Equality Federation, the national strategic partner to state-based organizations working to win equality in our communities. They joined Equality Federation in 2012 and became the executive director in 2021. Under their leadership, Equality Federation has expanded its support to the state-based LGBTQ+ advocacy movement, moving over $4 million to states combating anti-LGBTQ+ legislation since 2021. They developed the Equal Treatment predictive voter model, radically changing how we organize for an expansive LGBTQ+ policy agenda. Hutch was among the architects behind the successful field programs that secured marriage equality in Maine in 2012 and preserved transgender protections in public accommodations in the 2018 “Yes on 3” campaign in Massachusetts. These campaigns led to Equality Federation’s multi-million-dollar narrative change effort to fundamentally rethink organizing that puts transgender people at the forefront of campaigns for transgender rights.

Solidarity with Trans Kansans

The new anti-trans bill in Kansas is one of the most severe and harmful limits that we’ve seen on the freedom and civil rights of our community. We brought the power of our network to Kansas last week when 42 Equality Federation member organizations signed a letter of solidarity with transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender diverse Kansans affected by it.
