Equality Illinois (EQIL), the state’s oldest and largest organization advocating for equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals, seeks a full-time Field Fellow for a one year paid fellowship. The Field Fellow is dedicated to advancing equal treatment for the LGBT community through education and advocacy in Illinois.
Equality New Mexico's Board was mostly white, mostly male, and mostly cisgender. With thoughtful consideration, extraordinary dedication, open hearts and a willingness to learn, they switched from a "recruitment model" to an "attraction model." Today, their Board is diverse and dedicated to intersectionality and social justice.

For many young people, the first education they receive regarding their sexuality and sexual health is in school. It is critical, especially for LGBTQ youth, that this education is comprehensive, and addresses the needs of all young people.
Equality Federation is proud to join Advancement Project and Gay Straight Alliance Network to release Power in Partnerships: Building Connections at the Intersections to End the School-to-Prison Pipeline, a new report intended to serve as a resource for LGBT and racial justice organizations interested in working together to address disparities in school discipline along lines of race, gender and sexual orientation.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender older adults make up a large proportion of the LGBT community, yet are one of the most understudied populations. With 10,000 people turning 65 every day, many of whom are LGBT, it is essential that we understand the values, needs, wants and lifestyle preferences of LGBT older adults.
The Communications Director is a full-time position which will set and guide the strategy for all communications, websites, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate Equality Florida's mission and brand. You hold the voice of Equality Florida in your hands and must be a master storyteller.
Throughout this past summer, the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP organized and led Moral Freedom Summer. This ambitious project was a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the original Mississippi Freedom Summer and a massive grassroots organizing effort in response to the alarmingly regressive policies that were coming out of state legislature, including the worst voter suppression law in the nation.
State-based organizations across the country are advancing major progress in the communities we call home -- where the work is hard, but the impact is great. Nearly every week, we hear about another victory that provides LGBT people with the protection, respect, and dignity they need and deserve, but far too often, these wins are unrecognized by the broader community.
2014 highlights.
One of the greatest challenges for the state-based LGBT movement is securing funding and resources to do the hard but necessary work on the ground in the communities we call home. For groups in the South, this continues to be a struggle. LGBT advocates in this region work to win equality for their communities with limited funding and capacity, all while facing often intense political and religious opposition.
