Fran (Hutch)

Fran (Hutch) is the Executive Director at Equality Federation, the national strategic partner to state-based organizations working to win equality in the communities we call home. They joined Equality Federation in 2012 and became the executive director in 2021.

Under their leadership, Equality Federation has expanded its support to the state-based LGBTQ+ advocacy movement, moving over $5 million to states combating anti-LGBTQ+ legislation since 2021. They developed the Equal Treatment predictive voter model, radically changing how we organize for an expansive LGBTQ+ policy agenda. An organizer at heart, Hutch was among the architects behind the successful field programs that secured marriage equality in Maine in 2012 and preserved transgender protections in public accommodations in the 2018 “Yes on 3” campaign in Massachusetts. These campaigns led to Equality Federation’s most significant movement-building investment to date: a multi-million-dollar narrative change effort to fundamentally rethink organizing that puts transgender people at the forefront of campaigns for transgender rights.
